For everyone who needs a little more rest, we suggest a few days of workation in the city of the seven hills

We’re in the height of summer, and for some of us, our vacation days have already been used, while others simply want a few more days to escape the usual work routine and dive into new experiences.

For everyone who needs a little more rest, we suggest a few days of workation in the city of the seven hills. This term has become especially popular among digital nomads and remote workers, who are increasingly finding successful ways to combine work with pleasure. Plovdiv is the perfect destination because it offers a wonderful atmosphere, cultural events, and priceless pieces of history.

After the workday ends, you can quickly and easily immerse yourself in the fun of the Kapana district – filled with dozens of restaurants and bars for maximum enjoyment – stroll through the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, where you can take a break from all work matters and enjoy breathtaking views, or escape for a few hours to the foothills of the Rhodope Mountains.

The easiest way to plan your “working” vacation is to secure a comfortable place for both your office needs and overnight stay. In Plovdiv there are no coliving options, but an ideal combination is booking a room at Mouse House and a spot at the Cat & Mouse coworking space, located just a few meters from the guesthouse.

Cat & Mouse Coworking is the place for all those creative individuals who need a slightly calmer atmosphere without leaving the borders of Kapana, where inspiration is literally everywhere. The advantages of Cat & Mouse Coworking are its prime location in the very center of the city and in the heart of its fastest-growing district, the opportunity to work while absorbing the creative energy of an established community of people with innovative ideas in various fields, and the combination of a private workspace close to one of the most popular bars in town – giving you the chance to alternate between work and leisure.

After the first location of the Mouse House concept opened in 2017 – three double studios on a quiet street in Kapana – the project expanded to include three more incredibly beautiful apartments for overnight stays in a stand-alone 100-year-old house in Plovdiv’s top center, again only a few minutes from the bar and coworking space.

Of course, the central part of the city also offers other coworking spaces and options to rent offices or work from cafes. Some of them are Regus, Lambda, Bizlabs, and others. And if you prefer to work from a venue – in most places in Kapana, they won’t mind if you spend a few hours working as long as you order during the day, though it’s always best to ask first. Prices for renting a desk for a whole day start from 20 leva for 8 hours, usually including coffee and water.

Food expenses in the city under the hills can vary widely. You can either dine in restaurants and take advantage of lunch menus, which in Kapana range from 12–15 leva for a main dish, grab takeaway meals where 10 leva can get you a decent portion, or shop at supermarkets and cook your own food if your accommodation allows it.

As we’ve written before, Plovdiv is an exceptionally suitable place for digital nomads. The locals are open to going out every evening for a drink, sometimes for dinner, and on Fridays and Saturdays the nightlife lasts until morning.

Summer can get quite hot at times, but from the beginning of September to November the weather is simply delightful, allowing you to spend lots of time outdoors and discover all the wonderful little corners the city has to offer.
