Exhibition 150 years since the birth of Acad. Anastas Ishirkov

Acad. Anastas Ishirkov is the founder of geographic studies in Bulgaria. He was born on April 5, 1868, in Lovech. He studied history in Sofia University and geography in the town of Leipzig, where he did a doctorate in 1895. He specialized in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris. He’s the founder of the Geographical Institute in Sofia, Dean, and Rector of his Alma Mater and professor at the Free University.

He is the author of dozens of books, collections, articles, studies in Bulgarian and in foreign languages. Since 1904 he has been a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. From 1918 to 1934 he was chairman of the Bulgarian Geographic Society.

He died in 1937.

The exhibition, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Acad. Anastas Ishirkov, includes photographs, personal correspondence, travel cards, lectures, poems, caricatures, articles, notes and more. There are also significant materials from the Ivan Vazov National Fund.

The opening will be attended by Dimitar Minev - Director of the Library, Prof. Stoyan Nedkov from the Department of Geography at the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy, and Geography - Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Geographic Society and Assoc. Prof. Pello Mihaylov from the Department of Tourism, of the Agrarian University of Plovdiv.

Zdravko Yonchev at 80 - Anniversary Exhibition

On the eve of his 80th anniversary, the eminent Plovdivian has a Jubilee exhibition at the Aspect Gallery.

Zdravko Yonchev was born on 25 September 1938 in Plovdiv.

He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. Since 1976 he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. In 1993 he created one of the first private galleries in Plovdiv - Lucas - an attractive center and a place for meetings of artists in the Old Town. Over the years, he has shown himself as an illustrator, book designer, and caricaturist. A curious fact is that besides a famous artist, he has been a long-standing spokesperson at Radio Plovdiv. In his biography, he has many solo exhibitions and participations in general presentations at home and abroad. Among them are his participation in the National Chamber Exhibitions in Old Plovdiv, in painting exhibitions in Sofia, London, Wartburg, Hannover, Kuwait, New York, Rome, and many others.
