International film festival "Sofia film fest in Plovdiv" 2021 – continuation

The Plovdiv edition of Sofia Film Fest will continue in May with 18 new screenings. The festival was suspended due to the imposed lockdown in March. The films we failed to watch will be broadcast between May 14 and 24. In addition, we will be able to watch "One More", which in the meantime won an Oscar for a foreign language film and a new screening of Pink Floyd: The Wall. In the other tapes we will be able to see quality titles with favorite actors, such as Javier Bardem, Monica Bellucci, William Defoe and many others. The festival is held with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv.

Festival exclusive screenings and premieres of "Paths of Life" are coming - Sally Potter's latest film with Javier Bardem and Salma Hayek, Zayda Bergrot's "Tove", dedicated to the famous artist and writer Tuve Janson, "The Man Who Sold His Skin" "Cauter Ben Chania with Monica Bellucci, "Siberia" by Abel Ferrara with William Defoe.

On May 20, in "Paths of Life", director Sally Potter offers us a mosaic of alternative life options that Leo (Javier Bardem) can experience. Potter's handwriting, an uncompromising, raw and ruthless story, is one of the hallmarks of her work, loved by fans and filmmakers alike, and her ability to extract from the actors all the best they can is truly admirable.

The favorite of many fans of books Tuve Janson will come to life on the screen in "Tuve" on May 21. Zaida Bergrot will meet us with the artist and writer of children's books, who in a difficult moment in life, concentrating on her painting, develops a side project - children's stories, which she tells kids in the bomb shelters.

Several other quality titles with favorite actors will also be part of the festival. Cinema legend Monica Bellucci will be seen in Cauter Ben Chania's The Man Who Sold His Skin, which won high honors at the Venice Film Festival. Director Abel Ferrara offers us a meeting with the acting skills of William Defoe in "Siberia". We will be able to watch Thomas Winterberg again with "One More" with the unique Mads Mickelsen, and the film has meanwhile won an Oscar for a foreign language film. A little earlier we will be able to watch a retrospective of Winterberg with the 1998 film The Feast.

The screening of "Pink Floyd: The Wall" will take place again - on Thursday, May 20.

The remaining program also includes two Bulgarian films - "Life" on May 14 with Ivan Burnev and "Petya of my Petya" about the Burgas poet Petya Dubarova on May 24.

Tickets will be on sale at the box office of LUCKY Cinema House every weekday after 4 pm and on weekends after 11 am.

6fest 2021 Art Street Fest

The seventh edition of the 6Fest Street Arts Festival will present a multi-genre three-day street festival in Plovdiv with a circus, street musicians and dancers, fire, theater and more. The dates of the festival are May 14, 15 and 16, 2021. Admission is free, subject to current anti-epidemic measures.

The festival is held with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv as part of the cultural calendar of the city for 2021.

"Hello, Armenia" festival 2021: Scout Games in an urban environment

For the fourth year in a row, the Armenian Scout Organization "Homenatmen" - Plovdiv organizes a small holiday for children in Tsar Simeon's Garden, presenting interesting games through which children acquire specific knowledge of orientation, accuracy, resourcefulness.

Scouting? This is the journey, the wandering, the game, the difficulties, the discovery - mostly of oneself. Scouting fosters independence in young people and at the same time love for nature, for the homeland, for friends.

Since 1921, the Homenatmen organization has attracted Armenian children and young people, striving to build in them a sense of Armenian self-awareness, especially in difficult times, by building in several generations a sense of cohesion, belonging and love. Armenian scouts from Plovdiv want to share with their peers from the city the values ​​of scouting in the form of games.

Photo exhibition "Wonders of Indonesia"

A photo exhibition from the largest archipelago on Earth will open in Tsar Simeon's Garden, next to the Demeter Fountain on 17 May 2021, entitled "Wonders of Indonesia". The Embassy of Indonesia in Sofia presents elements of the culture, way of life and nature of Indonesia through unique photographs from various islands in the exotic country: Bali, Sumatra, Flores, Sulawesi, West Papua, Kalimantan, Nusa Penida and others. The photos will be available for free viewing by Plovdiv residents and guests of the city in Tsar Simeon's Garden until May 30, 2021.

The official opening of the exhibition will take place on May 17, 2021 from 17.00, accompanied by a traditional Indonesian dance performed by the Indonesian dance group at the Embassy of Indonesia - "The Charming Roses of the Archipelago".

The exhibition is part of a series of events that the embassy is planning across the country on the occasion of 65 years of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Indonesia, which are taking place this year.

The event is held in partnership with the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia.

Exhibition "The Power of Illusion"

The exhibition "The Power of Illusion" presents 19 young Plovdiv authors with their ideas about illusion-life. This exhibition is a debut for the youngest artists - the graduated students. It is challenging and curious in anticipation of what they think, want and what are the scales of their dreams and the courage in expressing them. All we see is an illusion. Today's boundaries between reality, illusion, game and truth are more blurred than ever. A "world upside down". The illusion draws our attention to the delusion of sight and heightens anticipation.

Today, artists can challenge almost anything: space, time, body - nothing is hidden from the game experiment. Our minds tend to create order in general chaos. Illusion is a special force of art, revealed in human experience.

On the opening day, expect an interesting surprise, as well as a performance of jazz with a sculpture turned into a unique double bass - a captivating illusion and mood.

"The power of illusion" is implemented with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv as part of the Cultural Calendar of the city for 2021.
