MEDEA

Euripides’ tragedy "Medea" will be presented for the first time in 40 years on the stage of the Roman Theater in Plovdiv. The performance will be played only once, just like in the ancient times. Although awarded third place in the drama competitions in Athens in 431 BC, this Euripides’ play remains in the history of world art as one of the most provocative tragedies. Can Medea take revenge on her unfaithful husband Jason? Is he guilty? Is she guilty?

The audience will have the opportunity to become involved in a true theatrical spectacle involving more than 40 actors, musicians and children. Medea, the granddaughter of Helios, the Sun God, will once again provoke the boundaries of human nature. The tragedy will begin with the last rays of sunshine and will be played in the darkness of the summer night.

The performance will have subtitles in English.

The selected films deal in differentiated ways with built environments. Be it a social space or an actual architectural body, many of the positions take an analytical and humorous glance at the spaces that surround us. Thus, for example, Le Corbusier's 'La maison blanche', which he built for his parents, is linked with Hitchcock's 'Psycho' and the Black Sea, scaled down to the size of a pond, is being cleaned in an artistic act.

Sibusile Xaba (South Africa) в Петното

Sibusile Xaba is the unusual South African guitarist and vocalist who has conquered jazz and afro music fans all over the world with his debut in the summer of 2017 "Open Letter To Adoniah / Unlearning". The atomic reactor of the new London scene, Shabaka Hutchings, claims that with his expressive guitar style and his shamanic vocals, Sibusile influenced his way of playing and his musical philosophy. The media rated the album as "spiritually uplifting", "alien" and "a connection between jazz and its pre-colonial nature." Western European festivals don’t fail to include Sibusile in their loud posters. The Jazz-spiritual-bard from Pretoria will go on a unique Bulgarian tour to the sea, passing through Plovdiv.

Ella & Pitr in Pulgaria

The world-famous graffiti artists Ella & Pitr will be in Plovdiv from 1 to 5 July for the Francophone Students' Festival.

At the invitation of the French Institute in Bulgaria and in partnership with the Foundation Plovdiv 2019, they will create together with the students a picture on an area of 5000 m² under the motto "Together".

The secret place in Plovdiv, where the two artists will work with the students, will be open to the general public on July 3 and 4.

Plovdiv will celebrate the 120th anniversary of Pancho Vladigerov's birth with a concert of the Classic Open Air series. We will honor the composer, whose work takes an honorary place in the golden fund of the Bulgarian culture.
