Performance "Rare Fools"
The performance is based on Mario Monicelli's film "Unknown Perpetrators" and is directed by Teddy Moskov.
With the participation of: Maya Novoselska, Robert Yanakiev, Yavor Baharov, Alexander Sano, Yasena Gospodinova, Diana Mihailova, Petya Venelinova, Ivaylo Spasimirov, Alexander Uzunov
The play "Rare Fools" is a theatrical version of Mario Monichetti's film "Perpetrators Unknown". The plot is highly comedic and reveals the touching attempts of a group of petty thieves to rob a pawn shop. They are glaringly unprofessional and totally unfit for the crime they have taken up. Of course, their self-esteem is inversely proportional to their capabilities.

Week of Contemporary Art 2022 - „The weight of being“
Week of Contemporary Art is the first annual international project for contemporary art in Bulgaria, which began in 1995. The organizer is "Art Today" association, based in Plovdiv, which is one of the leading organizations for contemporary art in the country. Association "Art Today" was established in 1997 and aims to present alternative and experimental forms of contemporary art; to work for their study and documentation; to build an information database representing contemporary authors.
The most significant project of the Association "Art Today" is the Week of Contemporary Art 2022, which after 28 years continues to be a sustainable and attractive initiative, both for the public and the art scene.
For each edition, a leading Bulgarian or foreign curator is invited, who chooses a current topic. Many of the works presented were created specifically forWeek of Contemporary Art. Important names from the international scene such as Hito Steyerl, Bill Viola, Benedict Partenheimer, Ute Richter, Julian Rosefeld, Scenocosme, Hans Schabus and many others have participated in the exhibitions. All of them are artists who have participated in the world's most famous contemporary art forums.
Curator of this year's edition of the Week of Contemporary Art is Galina Dimitrova-Dimova - curator and organizer of cultural projects. The theme of the exhibition is "The Weight of Being", which was inspired by Milan Kundera's novel "The Unbearable Lightness of Being". At the center of the reflections that led to the concept of the exhibition are the antagonisms with which human existence is connected: heaviness and lightness, freedom and dependence, responsibility and lack of will. "Of these, the opposition of weight - lightness is the most mysterious and the most significant".
The focus of the study is the thirst to be freed - from thoughts, actions, responsibilities and how this leads to our seemingly easy abdication of responsibility, which in turn brings the feeling of powerlessness and hopelessness. This can also be seen as a form of modern (post-capitalist) slavery, where people sell their most valuable possessions - their time, thoughts and ideas - to capitalize on a comfortable existence. Here, time is seen as a value, as a unit of measure or a barter coin that is used to fulfill human desires.
But as Kundera argues, ease never brings the resistance a man needs to fight his battles, it brings no pleasure, no particular meaning. Therefore, no matter how much this overwhelming burden scares us, it can only make us live with dignity. And beauty is the last thing that supports us on this difficult path - the beauty of exploring, of self-examination.
The conceptual framework of the Contemporary Art Week in Plovdiv 2022 is in the direction of regaining the weight of existence and the poetics of the image, which lightens us and lifts us off the ground, because "Creativity for people is like flying for birds" (Chekhov).
The format of the exhibition is art in public space and includes temporary artistic interventions in the urban environment in the form of installations, performances and guerilla actions related to the theme.
The artists participating in the exhibition are: Lachezar Boyadzhiev (Bulgaria), Emil Mirazchiev (Bulgaria), Venelin Shurelov (Bulgaria), Veronika Tsekova (Bulgaria/Austria), Desislava Terzieva (Bulgaria/USA), Sevdalina Kochevska (Bulgaria), Boryana Ventsislavova (Bulgaria/Austria), Ariel Reichman (Israel/Germany), Selma Selman (Bosnia and Herzegovina/Netherlands) and Elena Bellantoni (Italy/Germany). The period of the exhibition is September 2-11, 2022, and the artworks will be located in various locations in the center of Plovdiv. As part of the opening ceremony, the performance "MirroMorphosis" by Irina Stoyanova and Hristo Zhelev will take place.
"Call the city, call the people" - this is the motto of the conference, which will be held on September 3, within the 28th Week of Contemporary Art. The focus of the conference is on artistic interventions in urban environments that are specific to the space and seek engagement or interaction with the public. At the center of the presentations and discussions by the invited curators and artists will be the term "new genre of public art", proposed by the American curator Susan Lacey. She defines these artistic practices as "activist, dealing with social and political issues, often created outside the institutional structure, thus enabling the artist to connect directly with the public". Although social contribution is central to the works, the message is conveyed metaphorically and poetically, and the aesthetic qualities of the works are not to be underestimated. This is an important part of understanding the importance of placing art in public space.

"Angel Geshev's dream since his student years to capture the breath of time through the lithographic print is before us... And just as rock paintings are the universal writing of humanity from the most ancient times, so the artist has given his answer to the breath of time, layering cultural layers with different written characters and historical episodes, through his characteristic painterly texture, breathing new life into them, full of messages" - says Prof. Aksinia Dzurova about the artist.
And after six dynamic decades of life, Angel Geshev is convinced: "Memory always catches up with us, the problem is what will we call it for and will we hear its answer to our questions..."

"DAYS OF JAPANESE CULTURE IN BULGARIA" 2022
Once again Trakart Cultural Center will host the meeting on the aesthetics of Japanese culture and art thanks to Ms. Snezhana Nakatani. We can talk about the Land of the Rising Sun at length. As familiar as unknown! But a country in which, above all, the cult of beauty and aesthetics rises, mentioning only one single word - kimono. The kimono is the essence and emblem of Japan, and today it has the status of a symbol, and since the 1920s, fashion has periodically put ingenuity and creativity and used its pattern and cut. We think of it as a ceremonial garment, but in fact for most of history it was the traditional garment for everyone in the Land of the Rising Sun.
After the great interest of the audience in the kimono and obi exhibition, presented during the 32 Days of Japanese Culture in Bulgaria in 2021, the idea arose that this time the exquisite Japanese art of the kimono, a business card of Japanese in the world, would be presented together with contemporary Japanese music and ballet. The aim is to make a reference to the future development of kimonos by celebrating their beauty. Today, people can wear kimono in a loose, traditional or classic style. More and more designers are taking an interest in the kimono and this is helping to bring it back to where it belongs – on the streets, not in the museum or on the pedestal. Japanese music dates back to ancient times, with folk roots and early influences from the Asian continent going back a long way.
Japanese music includes the musical traditions of Okinawa and the autonomous musical achievements of the Ainu people on the island of Hokkaido. The main idea of the event is to present authentic Japanese art and its future development in unison with music and ballet, as well as to introduce Bulgarian ladies and connoisseurs of Japanese culture to traditional Japanese clothing.

Apocalyptica
It's been 25 years since the release of the debut album by Finnish headbang cellists Apocalyptica, entitled Plays Metallica by Four Cellos (Mercury Records)...
It's been 22 years since the magical first Apocalyptica concert in Bulgaria. It took place at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv in 1999 and won fans in the country that remember that concert to this day. Over the years, the graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki followed their own path, which proved to be successful as a career direction.
In 2022, the grown-up Apocalyptica return to the city of hills for another meeting under the stars with their fans here. It will take place in September in Plovdiv at the invitation of EventEase.
Today, Apocalyptica are still a breath of fresh air with their original approach to musicianship, professionalism in the arrangements of their music and their heartfelt performances on stage. Indeed-the energy and charge that this respectable classical instrument, the cello, brings, combined with musicians whose hearts burn with the flame of metal, is in itself a prerequisite for an explosive show.
In the pandemic year 2020, the band released a ninth studio album entitled Cell-0 (Silver Lining Music)... So it's time for a show with a refreshed setlist of new compositions - we've got it.

SUMMER GALA – BALLET ARABESQUE
On September 5, in the atmosphere of the beautiful Ancient Theater in the city of Plovdiv, at 8:30 p.m., Ballet "Arabesque" will present a strong and attractive program, a charming creative kaleidoscope of fragments of the troupe's best performances, will present to the Plovdiv audience an exciting and emotional experience that will energize you for a long time.
The program includes the performance "Afternoon of a Faun" by choreographer Mila Iskrenova, "Duality" by choreographer Liz Lee (Great Britain) and specially selected fragments with choreographies by Arshak Galumyan (Germany), Angelina Gavrilova and Boryana Sechanova.
In the performance "Afternoon of a Faun", Mila Iskrenova interprets in an innovative way principles laid down in the choreography of the legendary Russian ballet dancer of Polish origin Vaclav Nijinsky, as well as choreographic variations of antique images and sculptures. In the musical score, along with the music from the well-known prelude, Mila Iskrenova uses compositions for the syring flute by the French composer Debussy as well as verses from the poem of the same name by Stéphane Mallarmé.
"Duality" is a performance that the troupe has danced with pleasure and almost continuously for more than 10 years. This is a show created with music by Astor Piazzola, costumes by Tsvetanka Petkova Stoynova, poems by Pablo Neruda based on a workshop conducted by the British choreographer Liz Lea with the troupe. Liz Lee has modeled the dancers' movements and says their commitment to new ways of working and their enthusiasm has been a real joy for her. The style of the work combines in an extremely attractive way the traditions of the East and the West, dance and martial arts.
Today, "Arabesque" is not just a world-class troupe, but also a kind of school for performers and choreographers, a generator of ideas, a source of information about what is happening in the world of contemporary dance.
The pieces that will be presented by the different choreographers are characterized by a personal, colorful and unique language, based on both modern dance techniques and theatrical methods. Choreographic excerpts move the audience in a massive way, with physical and emotional depth.

Tarnovo's Queen theatre
Emiliyan Stanev's timeless story "The Queen of Tarnovo" comes to life for the first time on a theater stage, dramatized by director Boyko Iliev, faithful to the Bulgarian classics.
You will see Jacek Yankov in the main role of Dr. Stariradev!
Participants: Elena Petrova, Jacek Yankov, Tanya Karbova, Mariela Topalova, Mariyana Brankovanova/Tsvetana Blagoeva, Nikolay Syarov and Veselin Borisov
Costumes: Zhaneta Ivanova
Scenography: Teodor Daskalov
Director: Boyko Iliev
A young and elegant man returns from abroad to his hometown. "This son of Chorbaji, written off from the memory of the people of Tarnovo, was rumored to have spent bags of gold in Parisian cafes and nothing should be expected of him." Emilian Stanev sounds extremely modern again, not to say that his gift is prophetic. After "The Peach Thief" and "The Antichrist", he once again presents us with a painfully topical problem - the "foreigner" in his own country. Having "rubbed against the chandelier" of the West, the hero of Emilian Stanev can hardly tolerate "Oriental laziness and sloppiness". With this, he seems to justify his selfishness and arrogance. "Civilized" France has created for him certain habits in love that he does not want to break. Slowly but surely, he turns the woman who loves him and is ready to be his servant at home, helper at work, mistress in bed, mother of his children - into a prostitute, an employee of the brothel "The Two Pigeons". As if to protect himself from her unreserved love, he flirts with the rich man's daughter and his patient. Thus, two morals, two worlds collide. Ideas about love in the civilized world and simple folk ethics speaking with the language of nature collide. The nature that is above us all.
