Being a tourist in Plovdiv, whether it's your first time visiting the city or you're just looking to rediscover its charming locations, isn't expensive at all.
If you've already spent all your savings on fun activities by the seaside, today we'll show you that, with minimal funds, you can immerse yourself in the charming atmosphere of the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe.
In order to visit popular landmarks in Rome, Paris, or London, you often have to wait in long queues, book tickets in advance, and pay around 15-20 euros per ticket.
But what if we told you that you could explore one of the best-preserved ancient theaters in the world for just 5 leva? Yes, that's the entrance fee to the Ancient Theater of Philippopolis, where you can literally transport yourself back to the time of Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century. With its 28 concentric rows of seats, intriguing inscriptions, and beautiful statues, it captivates the eye of everyone and carries the spirit of Ancient Rome.
The ticket for an adult, which grants access to any of the impressive house-museums in the architectural and historical reserve of Old Plovdiv, is also 5 leva.
We recommend not skipping the Hindliyan House, with its unparalleled artistic and decorative embellishments that cover not only the walls but also the ceilings. It's also the only house open to tourists where you can see a private bath.
The Klianti House is another must-see location, as it is one of the oldest preserved residential buildings from the Bulgarian National Revival period. Every piece of furniture in it is authentic, and it has been restored to the smallest detail. The tables, chairs, dishes, and even the tablecloths were carefully selected for the different rooms in this magnificent building and were provided by "Ancient Plovdiv."
The truth is that wherever you go and whichever location you choose, you will be enchanted and impressed by all of them. If you have more time and want to escape from the summer heat, there's also a combined ticket for 15 leva, which allows you to visit five locations of your choice in Old Plovdiv (excluding the Small Basilica and the Episcopal Basilica).
The only exceptions to the 5 leva ticket price range are the Episcopal Basilica, which you can visit for 12 leva, and the Regional Ethnographic Museum housed in Kuyumdzhioglu’s House, considered by experts to be the pinnacle of Baroque architecture in Bulgaria. The entrance ticket for visiting it is 8 leva.
On the Old Plovdiv website, everything is described in detail, including discounts for groups and family visits, as well as for students and pupils. Don't forget that all the locations have specific days when the entrance is free. In some cases, these are for limited groups of people only, but on holidays and special events, everyone has free access to the exhibitions.
