We are in the season of skiing and winter sports, but we also know that this is not always the best option for people with young children. Kids often get tired quickly, seek to do something different, or are constantly looking for something new and exciting. That's why our recommendation this week takes you on a trip near Smolyan. It's suitable for a one-day getaway from Plovdiv and the surrounding area or a short excursion if you're already in the region for a vacation.
The “Santa Claus” Deer and Animal Farm is located in Momchilovtsi, about 15 kilometers from the town of Smolyan and Pamporovo resort. It is ideal for a weekend visit, and you can also combine your time outdoors with a visit to the village’s historical museum, which houses an impressive collection of over 3,500 exhibits related to local life and history. Since 2024, the only Magic Museum in Bulgaria has been opened, boasting the largest collection of its kind in Europe. It includes items from its creator - magician and actor Nencho Iliev, as well as artifacts from legendary illusionists such as Mister Senko, Fakir Miti, Orfi, Astor, and others. Among the exhibits is even an electric chair personally designed by Nikola Tesla for Mister Senko.
The Santa Claus Farm was founded by Dragni Georgiev from Dobrich. Years ago, he came to the Rhodope Mountains with friends to snowboard, but when his car broke down, he ended up staying—and found love along the way (at least, that’s how he tells the story on the website, and we think it sounds quite romantic and adventurous). He and his partner decided to raise their children in the Rhodopes, which led to the creation of the farm. They started with an animal area and later expanded to include a forest adventure park for kids and a cozy café for parents to enjoy food and drinks.
Currently, the small zoo is home to Highland cattle, fallow deer, and Valais Blacknose sheep. The children's park features attractions such as a trampoline, zip line, mini climbing wall, and more. The café offers burgers, Italian-style pizzas, and a variety of hot and cold drinks.
It's the perfect place for a fun weekend getaway! If you plan to visit on a weekday, it’s best to contact them in advance to make arrangements.
