They can often be seen strolling unbothered around café tables, along the cobbled streets of Kapana, or nonchalantly lounging in any sunlit spot. The local felines rarely fear people — in fact, they’re more likely to come and settle beside you than to look for a place to hide. They are the true rulers of the Main Street.
Here are the most popular among them:
Zoe

It’s impossible to visit the “Cat and Mouse” Bar without encountering its gray Instagram star. About a year ago, we dedicated an entire month to posts immortalizing her calm presence — even when surrounded by dozens of people.
She’s not always in the mood to be petted, though, so be mindful of her personal space. Still, she always poses... like a true supermodel.
Roshli

Also roaming around Hristo Dyukmedzhiev Street is our next heroine. Roshli often has turf disputes with Zoe — and thanks to her size, Roshli usually wins. You’ll typically spot her near the flowerpots or restaurants, proudly awaiting a piece of your steak.
The Orange Cat Near Dzhumaya

A guardian under the palm trees and around the Roman Stadium. Often seen lounging by the mosque, awaiting the dozens of flashing cameras capturing her regal posture.
The Cat from Tsar Simeon’s Garden (by the Bear Lake)

Her domain is the Bear Lake and the path leading toward the overpass on Gladstone Street. She often walks with pedestrians right up to the exit, always cuddly and friendly. Sometimes she finds rather unusual spots to stretch out.
The Cat Near Barber and Cat

She’s always seen calmly lying on the cobblestones, completely undisturbed by the hundreds of passersby. Her impressive size definitely draws attention.
The Cat Near “Fresh Pasta”

The popular Italian eatery also has its own feline mascot. Most often she’s spotted napping on the cushions out front, seemingly untempted by the scent of culinary delights.
Joro the Library Cat

Last year, his fate touched the hearts of thousands of Plovdiv residents when some voiced discontent over his presence in the building. This sparked a petition in support of him and heated discussions across social media.
In the end, Joro stayed — under the care of the library staff.
