After the last days with snow on the slopes the winter season in Bulgaria can finally start. We are constantly monitoring the cameras and know that hundreds are already at the resorts and down the slopes.
One of the most preferred places for practicing this type of sports around Plovdiv is undoubtedly Pamporovo, and we are convinced that, especially on weekends, it will be bursting with people at least until the beginning of April. That is why we have prepared for you an impromptu ranking of the establishments where you can eat deliciously and be satisfied. We don't claim to be exhaustive, and there's probably a bit of bias in our ratings, but we encourage you to share your favorites in the comments.
We’ll start with two traditional restaurants where you can enjoy the authentic Rhodope cuisine and atmosphere.
The first is Chevermeto na Bai Panayot, which opened its doors way back in 1971 and is one of the oldest folk-style establishments. Every evening, the most delicious lamb chevreme is baked in it, as the founder - Bai Panayot, prepared it - to the sounds of bagpipes and chants, a singer, a folklore program and live folk music. It offers a large selection of regional specialties and has both meat and vegetarian options.
Rhodope specialties is the other place where you can enjoy the national taste at good prices. Everyone recommends it because of the polite service and the good price-quality ratio of the dishes offered. The interior, resembling a cozy Rhodope house, also contributes to the homely atmosphere and good time.
We often hear that Bohemi is the best restaurant on the slopes, and we're not going to debunk that claim either. It’s suitable both for a warming drink during a break between descents and for snacking on something appetizing. Their soups are very flavorful and are an excellent choice for lunch, but if you prefer pizza, you won't be disappointed either.
Panorama is located at the foot of Mount Snezhanka, opposite the lift. Its menu is a pleasant combination of Bulgarian and European recipes, and the fireplace is the perfect choice for the time after the end of the winter day, where you can sit with friends over a glass of mulled wine. The prices are quite decent.
According to the Trip Advisor platform, the number one among the best restaurants in Pamporovo is Alex's Pub at the Malina ski center. Its location is perfect for both a lunch stop and a last drink after a long day on the slopes, so it often gets quite full on busy days. Among others recommended there are: Salute, Neptun Winter House, Gloria Mar, Enjoy Tea House. It is a matter of taste and preferences which one you’ll like and where it will be tastiest to eat.
