The landmarks in Plovdiv are very diverse and they carry the spirit of culture, history, different ethnicities, nature, physics… Besides the majestic monuments, houses, arches and therefore everyone here has the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique exhibits, set out in our various museums. Plovdiv has Regional Ethnographic Museum, Museum of Natural History, Museum of History and Archaeological Museum.
The Regional Ethnographic Museum is the second largest in Bulgaria, housed in Kuyumdzhiev’s house, “Dr. St. Chomakov” street, No2. The exhibition presents the traditional culture of the Thrace, the Rhodopes and Srednogorie from the Renaissance period. There are presented the main livelihoods of the population in the region– namely, animal husbandry, agriculture, and crafts as pottery, braiding, copper, and iron. There are various collections of jewelry, costumes, musical instruments and ritual objects.
The Natural History Museum is the largest museum in Plovdiv. It is located at 34 Hristo G. Danov St. There you will find scientific and artistic expositions, dedicated to the Bulgarian flora, fauna, and geology. The exhibits present the geology, botany, zoology of invertebrates and vertebrates in different sections. There you can see all kinds of small and large animals and plants. The museum has a library, with books, written by Ivan Buresh, Ivan Kostov, Stefan Petkov and other scientists who have devoted their activities to Bulgarian nature.
The Historical Museum immerses the visitors in the past of Bulgaria, related to the Unification of Bulgaria from 1885, Bulgarian National Revival, book publishing in Bulgaria, during the second half of the 19th and early 29th century, and modern history. There are exposed original exhibits, such as personal belongings, stamps prize characters, weapons, photographs, documents, and other artistic products. The building is located on the Saedinenie square
The Archaeological Museum has seven major collections – Prehistoric, Thracian, Ancient Greek, Roman, Medieval, Renaissance art and numismatic collection. Nearly 100 000 exhibits represent different types of art from the past, including ancient Greek and Roman eras. It is located at 4000 Plovdiv, 1 Saedinenie Square.
