Plovdiv has its secrets and this time we aren’t talking about history or archeology, but about the secrets of young people who revive the ancient city at the end of the work day and during the first hours after darkening. Not once the Plovdiv guide lostinplovdiv.com has told you about the favorite bars and restaurants of the people in the city, but this time we present to you the most popular party itinerary in the city. We have to specify that this is going to be the first part of our series – the night owls’ Plovdiv.
We have to start with the small but extremely cozy place called Artnewscafe. Located on Otets Paisii St the establishment is a meeting point of people from the artistic circles who gather after work to have a drink or two (or more) and talk about life, the universe, art and everything that comes to mind. During the warm months of the year it is even cooler because it would be no surprise if you take your glass or bottle and sit on the sidewalk in front of the bar. That’s completely normal.
After finishing our drinks we have to find a place to continue the night. The itinerary takes us directly to Bar The Post which is only two minutes away on foot. If during the day, The Post is a quiet and cozy place that quickly became the second home for many freelancers, on Friday and Saturday evening parties are an integral part of the program. The music is mostly jazz, in which you can often hear groove rhythms. So if you want to enjoy good cocktails and have a good time with friends, this bar is more than an excellent choice.
After an hour or two, or why not three, in Bar The Post we look for a change. Passing by the Garden of Tsar Simeon we hear an incredible voice from a live performance which takes us directly to Bee Bop Café. Undoubtedly the place is a favorite of lovers of good music and the diverse program is positive in one – book your seats beforehand because sometimes there isn’t enough space even for standing. Jazz, soul, light rock – you can hear all kinds of music and the quality of the performance is always the same – awesome!
We continue the night entertainment. We go out of the dead-end street and arrive at Lucky Cinema which is right above Bee Bop Café. No, we won’t take you to the movies at this hour on Friday night. However, inside the building, there is a small treasure. Going up the stairs we come upon a wooden door that says Fargo. The film theme bar will welcome you with its long balcony and when you go inside don’t forget to ask the bartenders for their recommendations. A famous cocktail bar, Fargo will win you with the bartenders’ original cocktail recipes and homemade ingredients. There’s no way not to have a drink or two there, too. Every few weeks they change the bar’s special so don’t miss it.
After hopping to Fargo, too, it is time to finalize our first crawl of the downtown bars. Only a hundred meters down Gladstone Street we arrive at the Culture House where there is another great place on the ground floor. It’s called Vintage House and there’s no way the retro interior doesn’t impress you. In addition to having an awesome program mixing guest DJs and live performances the establishments offers great light food you should definitely take advantage of, especially if you’ve had too much to drink. We recommend you try the desserts! We won’t tell you what they are but everyone with a sweet tooth will lick their fingers.
This is one of the party itineraries in Plovdiv and even though it is around 500 meters long, it promises really fun and exciting nights. Meeting new people is inevitable – either you’ll find them or they’ll find you – it’s unavoidable.
Expect a continuation from the guide of Plovdiv with the next party itineraries popular in the city under the hills.
