Ten years. That’s how much time has passed since the beginning of the Kapana Renaissance. It all started with the opening of the first establishment in the newly developed part of the district, which officially became a pedestrian zone in March 2015.
On March 14, a decade ago, beer first flowed from the taps of the iconic bar Cat and Mouse. The venue quite literally planted its flag on what is now the most popular street in Kapana—Hristo Dyukmedzhiev. Cat and Mouse was not just an event because of its location or the fact that it was the first venue to open in the revitalized area, but also because of its design by the architects from Studio 8 ½. Most importantly, it introduced a groundbreaking concept—pioneering the then-new craft beer culture.
Ten years later, Cat and Mouse is no longer just a bar—it’s a complete experience. The brand now includes a coworking space, boutique accommodations in the heart of the city, and a smaller sibling—Bar Local, also located on Hristo Dyukmedzhiev Street.
Over the past decade, the venue has organized Plovdiv’s first craft beer festivals, hosted numerous cultural events, gatherings of homebrewers, and so much more.
This week, the Cats and Mice are preparing a grand celebration, just as a 10th anniversary deserves. The bar invites its many loyal fans to a three-day beer marathon.
It all kicks off on March 13 (Thursday) with the opening of a special exhibition that will take us back in time, showing how Kapana and the bar became the iconic place we all love today—one that many often call their "second home."
The main birthday celebration takes place on March 14 (Friday), when @GoodVibesbyDenitsa will carry guests on the waves of great music, making sure they dance late into the night.
The third night, March 15 (Saturday), is reserved for the legendary bartenders of Cat and Mouse, who will not only return behind the bar and beer taps, but will also take over the DJ booth for one night of nostalgia, emotions, and stories about the thousands of spilled liters of beer.
Of course, there will be plenty of beer, and it will be special. One of the few ladies in the male-dominated world of brewing, Michaela Dimitrova, who works her magic at the Plovdiv craft brewery Fabrik, has prepared three exceptionally interesting types of beer for each of the three nights.
Michaela, who was also the first lady behind the bar at Cat and Mouse ten years ago, will delight the beer fans’ taste buds with three unique IPA flavors: peach, hibiscus, and tropical notes. The beer will be served on tap in very limited quantities, so if you want to try it, don’t be late for the festivities, which begin at 7 PM.
