One of the easiest ways to access the city under the hills is by bus. Often, it is also the most preferred choice if you are departing from the capital. This transport is usually faster than the train and there is no need to change lines if you are traveling from the interior of the country or Northern Bulgaria.
There are three operating bus stations on the territory of Plovdiv, and in the text below we will explain in detail how to get to them from the central part of the city and what buses are there.
Yug Bus Station
It is located near the Plovdiv Central Railway Station and provides a quick connection for passengers with arriving and departing trains and buses. It consists of a hall for passengers and a cash register area with a wardrobe, offices rented by carriers, an administrative entrance with service offices, adjacent cafes and kiosks for quick snacks, sanitary facilities, including ones for people with reduced mobility.
The main directions you can use from here are: from and to Sofia, Burgas and Varna and the smaller towns south of Plovdiv, as well as international bus lines to Turkey, Greece, Germany, Austria, Spain. In case you are traveling to the capital, it is a good idea to check which carrier covers the time of the line, as some depart from a stop very close to the train station.
To reach Yug Bus Station from the city center, you can use buses number 20, 7, 26.
Rodopi Bus Station
38 routes are served from the Rodopi Bus Station to administrative centers and high mountain villages. The building is in close proximity to the Central Station (they are connected by a pedestrian underpass) and to the BILLA-2 and Monsieur Bricolage hypermarkets. Through it, connections are easily made with buses to the villages of the Rhodope collar, as well as the places located further up the mountain. A bus to Zdravets hut also leaves from here, which is a perfect idea for a day trip. Routes 1, 27, 11 pass near the bus station, which you can board from the central part of the city.
Sever Bus Station
It is located near the Filipovo Station. There is a designated area for parking buses, with a capacity of about 60 parking spaces. Sever Bus Station serves 40 routes to populated areas located north of the city of Plovdiv. To reach it from the center, you need to take buses number 1, 12, 16, 21, 99.
Note that no bus station has its own website and to check timetables you must use that of a carrier. Be patient as well, because communicating in a foreign language is not easy on the spot.
